EL CAJON, Calif. – The Week of Welcome Fair is a great opportunity for new and returning Grossmont College students to learn about some of the free resources and explore clubs and programs the college offers. The Fair will be held this Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the campus’s main quad.
One of the resources the campus offers is free tutoring for different types of classes. Niko Crumpton works in the tutoring center and is a supervisor for the Learning Assistance Center.
Crumpton attended the fair to represent the tutoring center and answered any questions students had about the tutoring services they provide.
“We think a lot of students maybe aren’t aware of all the services that are available, and these types of events hopefully draw people out, get them together and let them know about all the free services we have,” Crumpton said.
About thirty-five departments, student clubs and programs were at the Fair. There was free food for students to enjoy while browsing the different resources and programs.
Some of the resources students found at the event were the Student Affairs Office, Success Coaches, the Gizmos Kitchen, The Summit, the First Year Experience and the Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement program and many more.
“It was a good opportunity to ask questions and find services that maybe some students didn’t know about and get access to,” Crumpton said.
The event’s goal was to help build and engage the community and spread useful information. Students were able to grab some free swag such as stickers and Grossmont-themed school supplies, play games to win prizes and get informational flyers.
“There was a lot of faculty and staff who were happy to talk about our careers or opportunities,” Crumpton said.
The Fair allowed students to stop by between classes to discover free resources, clubs and departments. It was a chance for students to make connections with other students and faculty members.
Another reason why students should have stopped by the Fair is to chat with faculty members from departments they are interested in to gain more knowledge and insight. For instance, the Theater Arts, Media Communications and Nursing departments were at the event.
Even if you could have stopped by for a few minutes, it would have been helpful. There was tons of information about the college to learn about and other students to chat with. An added bonus was the free food and swag at the event.
“Students should look for more events on campus in the future,” Crumpton added.
If students were unable to attend the Fair, there will be more free events with free food and swag in the future. To learn about upcoming events, check Grossmont College’s website and look for flyers around campus. Keep an eye out for the Spring into Success Fair and other events happening later this semester on campus.
