Parking permits will be required for the Fall semester of 2025. Grossmont College has been one of the longest local community colleges to waive parking fees since COVID-19, helping students have less of a financial burden.
While students attending Grossmont have not needed to worry about this particular fee since the return to campus after the COVID-19 pandemic, it has also been a financial burden for the campus. This fee pays for the parking lot maintenance such as pavement, lights, repainting, etc…
However, the permit grants students not only parking but also free escort services, unlocked vehicles, battery jumps, and plenty more from Campus and Parking Services.
Parking at Grossmont College has proven itself a challenge for not just students, but including staff as well. Some may argue, this change will eliminate freeloaders and better control the parking chaos.
Julio Hernandez, Vice President of Finance at the ASGC shared his struggles with the chancellor as he tried to fight for students. He suggested financial alternative plans for students who are financially struggling. Hernandez mentioned CAPS will not cite students for violations within the first two weeks.
While rates are currently under discussion, Grossmont College’s parking permit rates are considered among the lowest in the state.
ASGC plans to inform students gradually and firmly towards the end of this Spring Semester.
