Discovering Grossmont College

An Immersion in the Grossmont College Spring 2025 Open House.

EL CAJON, Calif.—Grossmont College hosted its spring 2025 Open House on Tuesday, March 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. campus’s main quad.

The event was organized by the office of the president of Grossmont College, Denise Whisenhunt, targeting Grossmont’s future students and offering them the chance to discover all that the college has to offer as an academic program, career pathway, and student life on campus.

Many majors and associations attended the event, and parents, students, and kids had a good time discovering featured majors and services offered at Grossmont College. Each table had minigames and rewards to make participation pleasant.

Representatives from all departments participated, including Child Development, Media Communication, Nutrition, World Languages, Culinary Arts, Nursing, and Respiratory Therapy. Additionally, various clubs and associations were present, such as the Associated Students of Grossmont College, Student Affairs, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, the Career Center, and many others.

Megan Konold is an instructor in exercise science, nutrition, and wellness who showcased associate science in nutrition at the event. Her table was filled with vegetables, fruits, and dark chocolate, featuring snacks that boost brainpower.

Garrett Peregud and Sonia Yaddgo were also present at the event as representatives of the Career Center. Peregud, a student service specialist, assists students with job searches, job strategies, resume support, and interview tips.

The event featured several school-related activities, including a guided tour, drop-in counseling, application support, and information on financial aid and scholarships for students interested in joining in the future.

Everyone was served pizza and lemonade. The culinary table featured freshly baked cookies from the chef, who is also the instructor, while the Griffin Radio students provided music and made announcements during the event.

This event was engaging as it highlighted numerous resources on campus that even current students might not be aware of. It provided an opportunity for instructors, current students, and prospective students to explore the various possibilities and resources available at Grossmont College.
