On June 4th, Grossmont College will hold its 64th annual spring commencement for Fall and Summer 2024, as well as Spring 2025 graduates.
In Viejas Arena at San Diego State University, the Griffins will walk across the stage and leave as alumni. Just three weeks away, with plenty of information that students and parents need to be aware of.
Firstly, students who plan to participate should’ve already completed the Graduation Application deadline due which was due on March 7. The application should’ve been done online with the Admissions and Records, as it ensures the student’s name is in the commencement program.
Once the student’s evaluation has been conducted and once finished they will receive an email of their status. Informing the student if they are on track for graduation or if more is required.
The bookstore has begun to sell regalia in mid-May and plans to continue to do so until June 4. The traditional black gown and cap with a green and gold tassel are expected to be priced at $60 and the honors cord for $18.
When students purchase their caps and gowns from the bookstore, the staff will mark a list of all graduates and honors status to help keep track of those who plan to attend.
Graduates who will graduate with honors are eligible to purchase the honors cord, which is two cords, a dark green and yellow gold. An easy way for students to know they will be graduating with honors is if their GPA is 3.5 and above.
The transfer center, located in Building 10, will host a transfer achievement celebration where students who are transferring will be able to stop by and receive a white transfer recognition cord. The only thing required to bring the offer of admission from the university they will be attending, an email recipient is acceptable as well. This will occur from May 27 to June 3, during their hours of operation.
Transfer student Eric Meiz will be attending San Diego State in the fall as a Kinesiology major in hopes of attending their doctoral program.
The transfer center will host an Admitted representative from SDSU on May 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and May 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For any student who plans to attend SDSU and has any remaining questions.
While many students who are attending commencement plan to pursue higher education, all will receive an associate’s degree. Graduating student Daneyra Ramirez will be receiving an Associate of Science in media communications, emphasis on audio production and cross-media journalism. She plans to work in the music industry in audio production.
GradFest will be held on May 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Griffin Center. Many activities will be held, like cap decorating.
On the day of commencement, graduates are expected to check in at parking lot 13, at SDSU, with a photo identification card like a valid driver’s license or student ID. The college advises students to practice writing their name phonetically to ensure their name is pronounced properly during the name reading.
Although commencement is a ticket-free event, friends and family will have to purchase parking passes for $10. Parking lots 7 and 12 will be open to guests.
Commencement is expected to be a two and a half hour ceremony with recognitions starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Viejas Arena. While this semester For additional information, graduates should keep an eye out for any emails sent by Grossmont College or visit Admissions and Records in Building 10.
