Dancing can be significant to many- those who find it soothing, a way to get through life, and an opportunity to connect with one another. It varies from different categories: ballet, Hip-Hop,Tap and more. Though some do not know the impact it has other than just its movements, it has the capability to create bonds.
A pandemic struck the world with COVID-19, a contagious virus that has killed multiple. It was the beginning of heartache and endings. Shows were being canceled, flights were being shut down, and studios went obscured. An era of tension that caused communities to unfortunately differentiate from each other and lose bonds.
People were aching for transformation.. Something that can bring back the spark in people to disregard the negative news revolving around the Nation.
The existing dancing community was deserted due to fear in the midst of the pandemic. People were wary of public gatherings, distancing themselves from one another, skeptical of one coughing and other signs of potential sickness symptoms that can be taken as having COVID-19.
Maddelleine Brage, a wife, a sister, and dancer took the initiative in creating and had the inspiration to create a versatile community through the art of dancing by becoming a dance instructor. Emerging from the pandemic-she continued to flourish as an individual finding continuous lessons to learn from and involving and gathering community with things they love.
“I was Inspired.” Brage said. Adding culture, unity, and telling stories through her empowering movements enchanting her audiences.
Potlocks, marketing, and organizing announcements were assisted by the members in her dance classes. It consisted of informative details about events, times, and updates. Potlocks would be held in event spaces during class and when it came down to hosting, they were held locally in San Diego county such as Balboa park, Point Loma, and Pacific beach to name a few.
Communicating with one and all created a profound lesson to Brage, “allow community members to have the opportunity to help.” She said.
Influencing her peers to be as prominent as she demonstrates examples of leadership. The members will later become long-term friends who are invited to her upcoming wedding this month. Brage will have guests entertained with dances, music, and food while they enjoy the evening full of joy celebrating love.
Brazilian Zouk also known as Funk carioca (brazilian Portuguese pronunciation) originated in the 1970s in the nightclubs of Rio de Janeiro also known as Funk carioca. It is a mixture of Samba, Tecno, and more. Brage specializes in Brazilian Zouk, passing down raw movements found around the world to the base of San Diego introducing new dances.
Teaching from Zouk 101 basics, Zouk 102 Body Movement, Zouk 103 Variations Brage elevates your dance while exploring endless movement from the head to your toes. Pricing is at sixty-five dollars for all packages, limiting capacity to six leads and six follows. Shifting apart from dancing,she submits herself to receive feedback in order to get better for her students to learn.
“Mostly given verbally,” said Brage. Once classes are done, the group gathers in delight and speaks to her about concerns, ideas, and compliments of the class. This allowed flowy communication between all, constructing a well-established foundation with one another. When dances begin, she dances with intention crediting those who commented thoroughly.
Brage dances with grace: in the belief dance is more than just movements. In a world where there can be hostile environments, unfortunate events, and pessimism she provides authentic genuine Zouk classes to others. Shifting the perspective and paving the way for those who will get inspiration from her changes.
