Sinai Toledo (23) is an inspiration to show a prominent work ethic, leading by example, by bringing culture, communication, and positivity to a hostile environment.
Promoting peace may look like peace rallies, meditating, and signing appeals to end world threats, but for Toledo, it provides a long-term positive change to those around her, promoting peace and an understanding of where her kind gestures are coming from.
Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sharp Memorial Hospital, she is taking on the responsibility of becoming a nurse, which requires a mindful approach to optimizing an attitude. Toledo’s desire to commit to these long-term objectives that come with the aspiration to become a nurse one day is expedient. An inspiration to my story as one was stunned by her actions, and have never seen before when one is admitted to the hospital.
Sharp has a wide range of successful and trustworthy health Professionals who provide health care services to all those in need. Patients who are going under surgery, chemotherapy, and receiving the proper care after intense procedures. A hospital is known to be full of heartache, full of hopes and tears, but beneath the surface lies a story.
Founded in San Diego in the 50s and with approximately 19k employees at hand, the hospital is known for great hospitality, outstanding procedures with results, and advanced technology. All of the employees, such as Registered Nurses and Doctors, are greatly known to be a vital asset for public health. This arises from the crucial educational training curriculum. This is due to a high demand for academic success, mandatory attendance, and long hours and applying into programs for their desired career.
“Working at a well-known hospital and being able to contribute to greatness is beyond words,” said Toledo.
In an environment where there is constant pressure to maintain a persona, composure can be overwhelming at work and even more difficult than working elsewhere. Mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging situations require forms of self-discipline. An extent that can potentially lead to selfishness by not taking proper care of yourself. It is a daily reminder to stick with a routine or have back-ups to ensure a duality of self-care in your daily life to see yourself in a high regard.
With impressive intuition from a young age, she was driven to make a change in the world. She felt the need to show genuine compassion to everyone around her, she is determined to create positive changes in a world where it is constantly in good and bad circumstances. Ignoring differences in ethnic background, disagreements, and emotions, she maintains composure, making the work community around her inspiring. A big impact, where others can be influenced to make a difference in slight changes anywhere and anytime.
Having come from a family-oriented home, she continues her life with the same ideology. Do good and receive greatness. She married her boyfriend of 6 years with her son, Jade, who is approximately four years old. During those years of earning a living, which consisted of relocating from Mexico, Washington, and Texas, she decided to live and pursue her passions back in her hometown, San Diego, CA.
This would aid her in adapting to quicker changes in the future. “I love the road to change; it is difficult sometimes, but it all makes sense,” she said.
Despite challenging times in her childhood (trauma), she learned various lessons that life had to grant her. Seeking help, she leaned on her empathic peers to help her surpass the obstacles presented to her, uplifting her to an affirmative mental state.
Baking alongside her mother, she loved the hobby she created with her mom growing up. She hopes to pass it along to her kids as a tradition. Each year, she bakes cookies for her family gatherings around the holidays. Four-year-old Jade helps her mom in the kitchen. “I have the greatest joy of being able to do the same with my son.” This cures her inner child as she often gets nostalgic about her mother when she is in baking mode. Creating core memories and passing them along for the family to continue doing.
She experienced hardships as her family became financially unstable in moments of need; she and her mother did not have enough for bakery items at the end of dinner. She would save up money from doing fundraisers at school, offering her support with the opportunity to have baking nights with her mother. Her mother is a stay-at-home who’s creative and loving to Sinai and her two oldest brothers. Toledo’s mother was very involved with their school lives, ensuring her kids would go to school with a delicious meal. Her father was hardly home, just in time for breakfast and Dinner on certain days, and only weekends off due to his tight schedule with work as a welder overseas.
Though Toledo felt heartbroken from the family scenario, she felt the need to bake. Suddenly, she stopped baking. Seasonal depression unexpectedly. This became an issue, a common issue the majority of the population can relate to. It had gotten in the way of her path. Taking a negative hit, she had no other choice but to take a break. This era prevented her from enjoying the things she liked- baking and expanding her horizons.
Rapidly heading down towards a negative path, she got sturdy on her feet. A contribution to her ideology is to do good, and you receive greatness- giving others the epitome of kindness through baking. Living a happy life- or at least a content one.-
It is not easy to come back from a dark hole mentally. It can drain you and throw you out the gutter like a piece of trash. Luckily, with the help of her mom and friends, she was determined to pursue her nursing career. Finding resources to start, she passed her nursing assistant program, earning a spot in employment at the hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Receiving help from the people she loved pushed her to greatness. She still stays in contact with her family, and they do frequent check-ups to this day.
Overall, Toledo’s methods of achieving a leadership role are also known for great assets in comfortability in her patients and meeting the standards: tackling down barriers, being a mother, and being enrolled in college to achieve her endeavors.
With what she endured in her childhood and adulthood, she did not let the drawbacks stop her for too long. She saw the light at the end of the tunnel and ran for it. Taking on the responsibility of becoming a nurse requires a mindful approach to optimizing an attitude. Toledo’s desire to commit to these long-term objectives that come with becoming a nurse is expedient.
She settled on passing the goodness of the cookies at her work, bringing in fresh home-made batches of cookies, brownies, and other bakery items. At home, she bakes for her family and cherishes her time. She willingly helps others and loved ones. “It makes me happy,” said Toledo.
Such acts of generosity are rare. Living in a world with constant changes, it is hard to come by a good day. Especially from an individual. Toledo reminds us that Kindness is a universal language. With as many years ahead of you, insist on creating the habit of showing positivity.
Within the team environment, moods that fluctuate are noticeable to all after Toledo brought her home-made dish of baked brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Though it was a small portion (a plate that fit eight cookies, leading to twelve then fifteen), it was proactive in giving warmth to the atmosphere of hostility. These small acts of kindness share a bigger story, it impacts everyone around you. As she has the nursing staff in her Medical Surgery Unit content, she supports them by offering an extra boost of energy into their system due to high activity throughout the twelve-hour shifts.
Over the twelve hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., it is estimated for nurses to have roughly over twenty thousand steps, that is, stating the calories are being lost within the hundreds. It is safer to have the people taking care of you be fully functional and trustworthy, knowing they are capable of saving your life.
Setting by example, kindness can be through small gestures that can be beyond warmth for those who have not experienced it before or need it the most can make a big delivery of greatness. Later, she would come to work and enter the break room with cooked items her teammates had made. As influential as she is, she receives several contacts requesting her baking once again.
She is seen with utmost respect for her professionalism, empathy to others, and her capability to go above and beyond. Resourcefully, all through creativity and outside the normality can strengthen the relationships with those around you.
She shares her favorite recipe that everyone found profound of and encourages yourself and others to articulate their ideas and improvise them in a positive way that can greatly impact the involved parties.

Here are Tips from the baker, Toledo:
“For quick room temp eggs add eggs to a bowl with warm water and let rest for 5 minutes then drain and they will be perfectly room temp.
For perfectly brown butter, place it on medium-low heat and stir with a spatula till foamy and the butter develops a nutty scent.”
